The Tanks at Tate Modern

Collective wisdom looms large. Super Woman explored the themes of identity and individual perceptions of women. Asking a diverse group of people from a wide range of backgrounds about inspiring women in their lives became an audio visual film collage of powerful sentiments.

Each account represented a facet, a quirk, trait or virtue that the individual has recognised in specific women. Together, the content materialised as a complete picture far greater than the sum of its parts. Encouraging visitors to contribute to the piece by answering the same questions and incorporating their response into the structure, a living installation was born.

This exhibit was produced in collaboration with the interactive artist Michael Marriot, film editor Sarah Keeling, and film sound recordist James Gardner. The projection on the walls of Tank Two meant that the scale of the project and its response, justified the title, super.
